The weeks after leaving residential treatment carry some of the highest relapse risk in recovery. Inside a program, meals, therapy, meetings, and sleep happen on a schedule, and drugs and alcohol aren’t available. At home, all of that goes away at once. NMG Recovery Consulting places sober companions with adults and teens to cover that transition, so the progress made in treatment carries into daily life.
Why the first weeks matter
Most people leave treatment with a solid discharge plan and the right intentions. The trouble is following that plan alone while dealing with old triggers, family tension, work pressure, and boredom. A companion is there to make the plan happen. They help you get to outpatient appointments, meetings, and therapy, and they’re present for the moments when you’d otherwise be alone with a craving.
How discharge support works with NMG
We do our best work when we’re brought in before discharge. With your permission, we talk to the treatment team, review the aftercare plan, and match you with a companion who fits your needs and personality. Your companion can pick you up from the facility, travel home with you, and help set up the house before you settle in.
Coverage usually starts at its highest level and steps down. A common pattern is live-in or 24/7 support for the first few weeks, then daytime or evening hours, then periodic check-ins. The pace depends on how you’re doing.
What companions help with
Companions help you rebuild a routine, find and attend local meetings, stay on track with medications as prescribed by your doctor, prepare meals, exercise, and get to work or school. They’re with you for family events and social situations. They also stay in contact with your therapist and treatment team so problems get flagged early.
For treatment centers and clinicians
Discharge planners, alumni coordinators, and therapists refer clients to NMG when they want a trained person on the ground after a client leaves. We share updates with the clinical team when the client consents, and we’re glad to join discharge planning calls. Referral partners can reach us at (310) 691-0242 or info@nmgrecovery.com.
